In a bid to address timely dissemination of climate-related information to agri-fishery stakeholders, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 8, through its Adaptation and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) team spearheaded a three-day Seminar Workshop on Climate Information Services on August 20-22 at the Visayas State University, Baybay City.

In his welcome message, Dr. Dilberto O. Ferraren, Visayas State University’s Vice President for Planning said, “Climate change is real. If we fail this time, we will fail our survival and our people.

Meantime, DA RFO 8’s AMIA Regional Focal Person and ARD for Operations, Dir. Larry U. Sultan, urged the attendees to understand by heart the hazards and vulnerabilities in agriculture with the emerging climate change phenomenon. “We need to prepare countermeasures to mitigate its impact and practice climate resilient agriculture as a strategy,” Dir. Sultan averred.

Mr. Lorenzo L. Alvina, Regional DRR Focal of DA RFO 5, and his team facilitated the entire workshop that focused on climate-resilient agriculture practices and climate information services for farm operations. The participants crafted the regional and provincial seasonal outlook and advisory; and the Municipal/City 10-day farm weather outlook and advisory.

Said workshop was also highlighted with an action planning and site visit to Ormoc City’s climate information services. The participants of the activity were key staff from the DA RFO 8 and provincial agriculture offices.  (RUBY Q. CALESTERIO, Information Officer II, FRANCISCO C. ROSAROSO, Chief, RAFIS)
