Meanwhile, Mr. Nelson Cortez, Provincial Administrator, assures that the province is always ready to help farmers in order for them to meet all organic standards.

He also stressed that the newly-elected chief executive of Eastern Samar Governor Ben Evardone is giving priority attention to agriculture sector.

So far, this is the third of its kind activity conducted by the Organic Program of Department of Agriculture, with the help of Dr. Carlos Dela Cruz, OAP consultant and Ms. Graciel Gacutan OA Focal from ATI, Baybay. Dr. Dela Cruz discussed the topic regarding on Philippine Standards for Organic Agriculture.

An open forum was highlighted the event where participants freely asked questions to the resource person. Among the questions raised were: (1)What are the requirements for the registration? (2)Is there really a need to register as an organic agriculture farm?

"When we say or hear that the farm grows organic food crops the first thing that comes to our mind is the realization that its product are safe and healthy, " Dela Cruz said.

Hence, the DA is pushing hard for the organic way of farming and that means, that Organic Agriculture is very important for health-conscious food consumers.  (ELIZABETH G. HUGO, RAFIS Staff, FRANCISCO C. ROSAROSO, Chief, RAFIS)
