Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 8 (DA RFO 8) featured some of Eastern Visayas’ top agricultural commodities during the 26th Agrilink, which opened at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, today.

Anchored on the theme, "Climate Resilient Agriculture: A Must for Region 8", the event highlights the relevance of addressing climate change, particularly in vulnerable sectors such as the agriculture industry. It may be recalled that Region 8 felt the brunt of Supertyphoon Yolanda in 2013.

The event also paves way to further promote the coconut industry of the region by showcasing various coco products such as tuba bahalina, vinegar, buko juice, sugar, ginit hats, sanika, coco coir, and other handicrafts. Other commodities include jackfruit, rootcrops, and other high value crops.

In his message, DA Undersecretary Ariel T. Cayanan, who represented Secretary William D. Dar, said: "We admire the indomitable spirit of Eastern Visayas people. The post-Yolanda landscape will provide an opportunity to scale up agri-fishery industry towards a revitalized sector."

Other dignitaries who graced the event were Senator Cynthia Villar, Chairperson of Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, Mr. Antonio V. Roces, President of Farm Resources and Linkage Development (FRLD), Mr. Joey Concepcion of Go Negosyo and Mr. Leonardo Javier, over-all Chairperson of the 2019 Agrilink.

DA RFO 8's OIC Regional Executive Director, Milo D. Delos Reyes, ARD Elvira C. Torres and PCA 8 Regional Manager Joel Pilapil were likewise present.

Aside from the showcase of local and international products and technologies, the event will also highlight technical workshops and investment forum until October 5, 2019.

Dubbed as the ‘largest annual international agribusiness event’, Agrilink is spearheaded by the Farm Resource Linkage Development (FRLD), in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Offices, attached agencies and private sectors.  (RUBY Q.
