The construction of the Improvement of Maytigbao-Balogo FMR Project is about to begin after the successful groundbreaking ceremony held on May 28, 2020 in Brgy. Maytigbao, Maydolong, Eastern Samar.

Some officials of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 8, headed by RED Angel C. Enriquez and the Provincial Local Government of Eastern Samar attended the groundbreaking ceremony to show their full support for the hardworking farmers who painstakingly transport their goods in order to provide food for the people, at the same time to earn for their families’ needs.

“After 69 years since Maydolong became a municipality, at last, this road will now be refined. This will help in boosting the economy of the province and help our farmers to have a more accessible market for their harvests,” Hon. Godofredo Garado, Municipal Mayor of Maydolong shared.

This 1.77-kilometer FMR traverses from Brgy. Maytigbao, of Maydolong to Brgy. Balogo, of Balangakayan benefitting 10 barangays, consisting 253 households and a total population of 1,065.

Hon. Fernando Operario, Brgy. Chairman of Maytigbao, also a farmer and tricycle driver narrated the challenges the farmers and community have been experiencing in crossing this bumpy road. “I have been transporting farm goods using my motorcycle for 10years. I have witnessed many motorcycles stumble because of the mud during rainy days. Even I, had my own experience when my motorcycle was damaged because of overloading and potholes. Since then, I limit the loads of farm goods,” he revealed.

The construction will enhance an existing road by concreting it and extending its width from four (4) meters to five (5), plus 1.5 meters for each shouldering, which has a total project cost of Php33,020,142.90. The PLGU has provided 10% equity for this project, while 10% was from the government fund, and 80% was taken from the World Bank loan.

“We didn’t have second thoughts in providing the equity for this project. This shows how enthusiastic and supportive the Provincial Local Government of Eastern Samar is to the projects of the Philippine Rural Development Project in our place,” Hon. Ben P. Evardone.

RED Enriquez applauded the PLGU and the people behind the tedious processing of the documentary requirements for the said FMR project. “I am so proud because they are the people who are capable and knows what is the key for projects like this,” she said. She also emphasized the importance of data in planning and preparation of projects and to document these for basis of actions. (Jennina June Leira L.
