Eastern Visayas host Visayas AFC Congress

Department of Agriculture 08 (DA-RFU-08) Regional Executive Director(RED) Angel C. Enriquez challenged the AFCs to remain relevant and to craft relevant and timely resolutions which could help boost the country's productivity.
At the same time, she thanked the voluntary leaders for their service to the farmers, fisherfolks, rural youths, housewives in this marginalized sector, even in the past years when there was a pandemic.
Province of Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho L. Petilla said he was there to listen and learn, at the same time he emphasized the essence of technology as an important component to consider in any undertaking. He also challenged them to help our farmers in their respective areas to boost their production and to address the same goals of making the country’s agriculture competitive in view of the World Trade Organization and the need to sustain our production to feed our people.
After the lively Opening Program, the new DA program on The DA National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) was discussed by Ms. Kristine Angeli A. Valdez of the BPI, Manila with an Open Forum.
RAFC 8 Chairman Engr. Miguel Pedroso also presented the Rationale and Objectives of the activity. There was also a video showing highlighting the various accomplishments of each AFCs since the pandemic.
The participants also had a photo opportunity with Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho L. Petilla and DA 8 Director Angel Enriquez.****
The 2nd day of the Visayas Agricultural and Fishery Council (AFC) Congress and Areawide Participatory Performance Review and Planning Workshop hosted by Region 08 (Eastern Visayas region), continued yesterday, October 12, 2022, Wednesday, with two lecture discussions, breakout sessions, presentation of outputs and the ways forward for the respective AFCs.
First lecture discussion was on the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) with emphasis on Value Chain Analysis in the Visayas Cluster presented by Mr. Shandy M. Hubilla, Deputy Project Director of the PRDP.
This was followed by the lecture on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights of Women in Agriculture shared by Ambassador Zara Jane Juan of the UN SDG. Both topics were eagerly discussed by the AFC volunteers, which became part of the inputs for the break-out sessions later in the day.
This Visayas-wide AFC Congress will continue until tomorrow, Friday, October 14, 2022 at the Haiyan Hotel and Resort, Tanauan, Leyte gathering over hundred AFC volunteers and officials from the Department of Agriculture offices in the Visayas and the Central Office, Quezon City.
