Livestock development mission conducted in Leyte

Two municipalities, namely Hilongos and Matalom were covered in the said mission, with the assistance of their Municipal Agriculture Office.
Technical personnel from the Livestock Program, Regulatory Division, Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and the Malitbog Satellite Station were present to orient and offer services available in the government towards the development of the livestock sector.
The teams visited various barangays which registered a significant number of livestock raisers. Farmers brought in their animals such as carabao, cattle and goat, having them to avail of free services such as deworming and vitamin supplementation.
Blood and fecal samples were also collected for the early detection of diseases and its management. Farmers were also able to consult the veterinarians on how to attend properly to their animals, especially when it shows symptoms of getting sick. Other farmers were enrolled under free insurance of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) in support to the Livestock Program.
Planting materials of different forages and legumes were also distributed to the farmers to educate them on the importance of improved feeds and nutrition. ###
