Representatives from the farmer groups, agriculture and fishery councils, local government units, state universities and colleges, and concerned national government agencies were gathered today for the stakeholders meeting on the promotion and development of jackfruit to be the champion commodity of the region.

 

Presented during the meeting was the regional situationer of jackfruit, highlighting the value chain analysis and proposed strategic directions under the commodity covering input supply, production and marketing. This was followed by the open forum and discussion.

 

RED Angel C. Enriquez graced the opening porgram who committed providing support to the sector. Also present were DOST-8 Regional Director Ernesto M. Granada, and RDC Private Sector Representative for Agriculture and Fisheries, Atty. Roy Bernard C. Fiel.

 

As ways forward, the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office 8 identified re-activation of the regional jackfruit industry development council and conduct of technical writeshops for the finalization of roadmap, to be hightlighted in the jackfruit summit slated this year.
